I use sketching mainly as a tool to quickly ideate, explore form, and work out mechanics. I sketch as much as possible, but don't obsess on the visual quality of the drawings. Sketching is a means, not an end. Some of my favorite sketches are the simplest, such as the two chairs in the bottom left of the picture below. Simple bold lines, and one shade of grey to add depth.
