Glass Projects:

Silk screened glass

This panel and the screen for it was made as a demonstration piece for my coworkers at Northern Art Glass, and to show them how to make a silkscreen. The panel is roughly 12 inches tall by 14 inches wide.

This picture of Albert Einstein was chosen because of the wide range of light and dark tones.

A lead based paint was pulled through the screen onto the panel. The panel was then fired in the kiln at 1200 degrees Fahrenheit which fuses the paint with the glass for a permanent graphic. This is a new twist on the classic technique that has been used for hundreds of years to make hand painted stained glass windows.
